My Story Corps Interview

StoryCorps trailer

This recording was done at a mobile StoryCorps trailer on September 16th, 2007.  The StoryCorps website describes itself this way:

StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening.

By recording the stories of our lives with the people we care about, we experience our history, hopes, and humanity. Since 2003, tens of thousands of everyday people have interviewed family and friends through StoryCorps. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to take home and share, and is archived for generations to come at the Library of Congress. Millions listen to our award-winning broadcasts on public radio and the Internet. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, creating a growing portrait of who we really are as Americans.

I love doing this kind of interview. Listening to it now is like a time capsule, and it was only two years ago.

I know, I’m really late to the party, then again I’ve not been doing much with blogs, blogging and so on for a bit. I just wanted to say this was awesome Marti. It let me get to know you better, and your awesome Son. It took courage for both of you to do something so intimate, so close, that the entire world could share in. I’ve got to say, good for you! Plus you’ve inspired me some, I’m already looking at Story Corps to see what my options are, and I’m thinking I’m going to start using their question base to start creating podcasts from. This has a deep “Our stories, Ourselves” flavor to it that I like without it being this (for me at least) unsupportable all trans all the time channel.

So I thought I’d say thanks for sharing this with all of us, and thanks for inspiring me!

    🙂 Thanks. You’re very welcome.

The cool thing about StoryCorps is that these recordings will be around long after I’m dead. I’m leaving a gift to my children’s children, as they are now property of the national archives (i think?). I plan on doing another interview with my best friend as soon as I can. She’s such a beautiful person, I want people to know of her, and her life.
